Christmas festival. Carmen-gala.
Words of P. Tchaikovsky who heard Carmen in 1880 became prophetic. “In my opinion it is a masterpiece in the full sense of the word. I am convinced that ten years later Carmen will be the most popular opera in the world”. Nowadays, this opera is included in repertoire of almost all world opera theatres and it is performed in practically all languages. Intensity of emotions, plenty of bright remarkable melodies, diversified multifaceted musical characteristics of the heroes, burning Spanish colour attract within 130 years not only listeners but professional musicians as well. Many composers inspired by the masterpiece by Bizet wrote their transcriptions based on the opera. This concert will include the most well-known vocal and instrumental parts from opera Carmen by Bizet and two eminent transcriptions: virtuosic Fantasy for violin and orchestra by P. Sarasate and famous Carmen Suite by Shchedrin. Great ballet dancer Maya Plisetskaya dreamt of realization of disquiet and fascinating character of Carmen on ballet stage. Her dream was both an internal motivation and external reason for creating Carmen Suite. Rodion Shchedrin chose “music by other composer” as he thought that Bizet perpetuated himself in people’s minds with association of literary image and great immortal music. Shchedrin didn’t think fit to create new music material and being infatuated with the opera by Bizet selected the way of transcription.
