Night… The most mysterious, enigmatic and that’s why more attractive period… Infinite space… Bright moon, myriads of stars in the sky, fresh night wind and blossoming gardens’ fragrance…

A Night in Madrid by Glinka vividly depicts the atmosphere of summer Spanish night. The composer wrote it after returning from Madrid and being under impression of Spanish folk songs and dances. It’s indicated by the author in symphonic impressions that Nights in the Gardens of Spain for piano and orchestra by De Falla combines distinctive features of French impressionism with Spanish basis. Music of Nights in the Gardens of Spain is woven of folk intonations and rhythms. With regard to delicacy of creation and skill of using the instruments it is one of the best composer’s score. Extremely popular Mozart’s Little Night Serenade and Vivaldi’s Concerto for flute and orchestra “Night” immerse us in the world of courteous love and refined relations.

There are other nights as well. Summary preceded by Mussorgsky to his musical picture Night on Bald Mountain: “Subterranean roar of non-human voices. – Appearance of darkness spirits and of Chernobog right after them. – Worship of Chernobog and black mass. – Sabbath. – At the wildest moment of Sabbath faraway bells of village church are being heard, they disperse darkness spirits. – Morning.”

Exquisite sound game, full of hints and symbols is an impression about Debussy’s moonlight night. “Music exists for inexpressible; I wish as if it went out of twilight and by moments returned to twilight; I wish it were always modest”, - the composer wrote.
