Tchaikovsky founded his original language and style in the first symphonic compositions. “Winter Dreamdays” Symphony revealed many peculiarities of Tchaikovsky-symphonist. In this piece young composer created symphonic cycle, new for Russian music, which he developed later in other compositions in this genre. The symphony contents is connected with classic theme of Russian poetry – road and images of nature in winter. Profound and complicated spiritual life of the author and his relations with reality are exposed in the symphony through impressions. The symphony has been one of his most favourite compositions during his life-time. Informing P. Jurgenson about performing of the First Symphony P. Tchaikovsky wrote about his composition: “Though in many aspects it is very immature, but in the main it is rich in content and better than others which are more mature. I like this symphony very much”.
Famous First concerto for piano and orchestra by P. Tchaikovsky will be executed by Vadim Kholodenko. The pianist was born in Kiev in 1986. From 2005 to 2010 – student, from 2010 – postgraduate of the Moscow State Conservatory named after P. Tchaikovsky (class of Professor V. Gornostaeva). Prize-winner of many international competitions: the F. Liszt Competition in Budapest (III Prize, 2001), the M. Callas Competition in Athens (Grand-prix, 2004), the G. Bachauer Competition in Salt Lake City (III Prize, 2006), in Sendai (I Prize, 2010), the F. Schubert Competition in Dortmund (I Prize, 2011). Laureate of the Triumph Youth Award (2004).
Vadim Kholodenko performs successfully at the best venues of Moscow and Saint-Petersburg, in many cities of Russia. He toured in Ukraine, Austria, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Germany, Greece, Italy, France, Croatia, Czech Republic, Switzerland, the USA, Israel, China, and Japan. Since 2004 the pianist constantly cooperates with State Symphony Orchestra “Novaya Rossiya” (conductors – Y. Bashmet, E. Bushkov, C. Vandelli). He performed with the State Symphony Orchestra of Russia named after E. Svetlanov (conductor M. Gorenstein), Symphony Orchestra of the State Saint Petersburg Chapel lead by V. Chernushenko, Symphony Orchestra of the Ukraine Philharmonic Society (conductors N. Dyadyura, T. Komatsu), State Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine (conductor V. Sirenko), Danubia Youth Symphony Orchestra (conductor G. Bizanti), Symphony Orchestra of the Hungarian Radio (conductors T. Waszari, A. Ligeti), Szeged Symphony Orchestra (conductor F. von Sita-Frichai), Jassy Symphony Orchestra (Romania, conductor G. Kostin), etc. He has recorded CDs “Chopin and Schubert”, “12 ……. etudes by Liszt”, “Sonata by Medtner and transcriptions by Rachmaninoff”.
